FAQs

What is or are “Friends of Western”?

It had been felt for some time that players, after having enjoyed a long and successful playing
career at the club, tend to drift awa. Following a mailshot in early 2005, we have so far
recruited over 50 people who have welcomed the opportunity to make contact with old friends
and be kept informed of club news
and developments.

The aim is to cater for anyone with an interest in Western Hockey club – past members, players
currently not playing (e.g. away at university) and parents of junior and senior members etc.

In addition we aim to enable Friends to play a part in continuing the phenomenal success that
WHC has achieved over one hundred years in Scotland and more recently in Europe.

Benefits of being a Friend of Western include

v  Organised match days to watch top first team fixtures while socialising with current players
 and other members/ old friends.

v  Access to the club website – keeping members up to date with club news and team
performances

v  Invitations to social events and functions

v  Organised social events for past players including a bi-annual golf tournament

v  Opportunity for members, family and friends to watch hockey at Auchenhowie and in Europe

v  Brief annual report giving salient points from committees and AGM
(also posted on FOW section in Club website)

v  Opportunity to promote other ideas for the benefit of Western HC
