Match Report - 09 Oct 2010, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 5 beat Helensburgh 2
Jonathan MacDonald the scorer in the last ten minutes - great goal by the wee man: A hard hitting cross from our right, into the box by (I dont know who) where Johnny ran across his defender to get a dink, leaving the keeper stranded and sending it into the right hand backboard!! Great goal to cap off a well deserved performance from Jonathan!!
The pattern of the game was again, like last week, mostly in our favour and terriortorially we dominated the game, without looking clever on occasions with possession!! Defence was the rock it has been and Magic and Donald performing a good partnership at centre back!! Through the middle of the park was Yates and the new lad Alex Wim- giving an alien position to him of Defensive midfielder but performed very solidly and looks a real find. Michael McBride also put in a good, hard shift and no wonder when he was playing just infront of his father : who can still crack one hell of a ball!!
The game itself flew by and from memory we did create alot of openings with plenty of short corners to show but the Helensburgh defense stood firm to the onslaught.
Good all round performance and we had to work hard for our win, which is a real positive. Great goal by Johnny (who has a habbit of scoring against Helensburgh)!! We are however, going to have to take more of the oppertunities from short corners as our type of attacking play merits an end product to the hard work we put in.
Thanks also to the dependable, Stuart O'toole for running the line and subs..A bad cold restricted his appearance on the pitch for any one time but certainly made a positive impact when he came on to steady the midfield!!

Footnote : Hospitality from Helensburgh as ever top class and makes the journey more pleasurable!! Thanks to Andy Ritchie (Helensburgh) there!! Just ask Cammy Laws who scoffed down two lots of pie and beans!!!!
