Match Report - 29 Jan 2011, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 5 beat Helensburgh 2
The mens 5th team claim another well earned victory in their league campaign. From the pushback it was clear we had a superior force and Helensburgh were under constant pressure at the back. Jonny MacDonald opened the scoring early in the first half followed shortly by a short corner conversion from Colin Douglas. Focus seemed to dip after this, causing a couple of scares at the back (though never going so far as to bother Richard Higham). Then it was game faces back on to hold out until half time.
The second half we were back at it with renewed vigour and young Gavin Yates seemingly opened the floodgates. Cameron Laws then added two more to his, already impressive, seasons tally. A flick was awarded and not wanting to put unnecessary pressure on his teammates captain Michael McBride selflessly stepped up to the plate. Although he sent the keeper the wrong way his penalty stroke unfortunately went fractionally over the crossbar. Just as we thought the game had no more goals to offer Rory Crawford managed to get a goal that had been a long time coming, before the game was bookended by a superb goal from Jonny MacDonald. Straight from the restart he took the ball on his own past every oppostion player, while they looked on dumbfounded, before slotting it in perfectly. All in all a great game with a fantasctic result.
