Match Report - 05 Feb 2011, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 5 beat Irvine
The fives began this game as they meant to go on, immediately applying pressure to Irvines defence. Though there were plenty of chances it seemed nothing was to come of them, until midway through the first half a flick was awarded and Gareth Clunie stepped up and converted it with ease. After that complaceny set in, passes became sloppy and shape was lost. A short corner was given away which Irvine slotted away leveling the scores.
After a few words at half time and the team went back out with renewed vigour our midfield and strikers overrunning their defence. Eventually after numerous attempts on goal Cameron Laws got what was coming with a cheeky reverse stick goal. Almost immediately after this, unbeleivably, a legitimate claim for a flick was denied. Unfortunately within the last five minutes Captain Michael McBride picked up a green card, despite keeping his mouth shut he was deemed to be causing problems for the umpire. Though they now had a man advantage Irvine were still unable to break through with the final score finishing 2-1 to Western.
