Match Report - 05 Feb 2011, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 6 lost to Rottenrow
With our first game against Rottenrow being such a walkover for Rottenrow we decided to go for a more defensive formation this time playing a 4-1-4-1 formation. Playing aginst us were a few of my former Strathclyde Uni team mates and a couple of very recenlty former Western players (Steve Lamont, Andy Tait) who obviously couldn't cope with playing hockey at the level they were being asked to play at Western and decided to move to a team a couple of division below where they had been playing.
The game started as it was going to continue for the most part with Rottenrow putting us under a lot of pressure, it took them till about the 11th min or so to score thier first goal. The score remained 1-0 till half time. We did manage some attacks during the first half, but it was mainly through good defending and determination that we managed to keep the row out.
The second half continued in the same fashion with Rottenrow trying their hardest to score and us trying to stop them. Rotterow did manage to eventually score antoehr 3 goals, with the last 2 being scored by JK from a short corner into the bottom left of the goal, and Andy Tait scoring the 4th from a shot near the edge of the area. Murray made some greats saves in this game the best coming from a shot which was take and then hit a stick and deflected into the air which he needed to react to qucikly and stick his hand into the air to divert the ball over the bar.
I also have to say we had 2 of the best umpires umpiring the game that we've had all season with Murray Laing from western and Chris Crampsey being very fair and happily explaining anything that anyone had a problem with.
Also have to thank Chris for then also umpiring the girls national league game which Western were meant to be convering, however due to Ali T's injury flaring up, and me working and Robbie not having his car with him, we were going to be left a little stuck for umpiring the game.
