Match Report - 12 Feb 2011, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 6 lost to EK/Avondale 3
This was not just a game of 2 halves but 2 halves within each half. Within the first 10-15 mins of each half we lost 3 or 4 goals, either through bad defending or good play from ek, or a mixture of both. However we did manage to make a come back and got a short in each half of the game. Not sure how we won the first but, due to our normal people for putting in the corners not playing or being in goal it was left to me to take them. The first went straight to Ali T who played it to Andrew McConnell who passed it back to Ali to scoop it into the top left corner. The second corner of the game came after great work from Andrew M, who wnet into teh D with the ball and got fouled to win the short. So i had to run the length of the pitch again to take the corner which again was played to Ali T who had a straight shot at the goal which came back off the keeper to Ali who then shot into the other corner to score our second goal.
The team had some great play at times during this game. I have to make a special mention to Andrew McConnell who was playing his first game at 11 years old. At the other end of the scale we had Robbie R still playing at 69 so we only a small age gap of 58 years between players on the pitch today. Would have asked if there has ever been a bigger age gap, but with the Stepps goalie being in his 80's and still playing there is no point.
