Match Report - 19 Nov 2011, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 6 lost to Irvine
We were missing a few of our regular players today with 4 of the juniors having football on so could not make the early push back in saltcoats. We knew this was going to be a tough game from the start with Irvine now sitting 2nd in the league have picked up a couple of decent players in the form of Cliff Martin and his son Phill. The game started as expected with Irvine pressuring us, and eventually they took the lead after 15 mins. The second goal was very contraverstial from a western point of view as Irvine had a short corner which was played out to top d and then passed a couple of times before the first shot at goal was taken and hit into goal above the backboard. Shortly after this Irvine then scored their 3rd and added the 4th before half time. We managed to keep the score down in the second half and played a bit better and even managed to win a short corner.
I have to give a sporting award to Cliff as he kindly gave us the ball back when after an incorect descision by the umpire went against us he played the ball to one of our players.
Man of the match today i would have to give to Pat as without him we could have lost by a lot more as he had to pull off a lot of saves.
