Match Report - 04 Mar 2012, Western Wildcats Hockey Club Men 2 lost to Clydesdale 2XI

Another patched up 2nd team took to the field at Titwood to play Clydesdale in the District Cup. Having drawn the earlier 2 matches in the league it was always going to be a close run game, however and extremely poor first 10 minutes gave Clydesdale the chances to go 3 nil up. The 2s slowly started to come into the game but just before half time a scrappy goal was scored by Clydesdale to give the 2s a mountain to climb for the second time in 2 days.

Some strong words and tactical shift at half time seemed to provide the response required and with 15 minutes gone Joe McConnell tapped in the first goal in the reply. Western were dominating possession at this point and pressed on to get another goal. After one particularly fast break from Lawrence Redford the ball reached Fraser Crawford at top D and he calmly hit the ball in to the bottom left of the goal. Then with less than 5 minutes to go a ball across the top of the D found Ally Rankin racing in from the left and he first timed a bouncing ball past the despairing dive of the keeper.

It was all in vain however as Clydesdale managed to block out the remaining time and the 2s once again rued letting the opposition get such a head start.
