All in all Saturday was a good day with four wins, a draw and a narrow defeat from six games played.
The Women's 1s got their season going in style. The ferocious cats were back in action with an away fixture to Gordonians in Aberdeen.
The Milngavie side got off to a strong start putting pressure on the newly promoted side. Ava Smith, on her debut, put the visitors ahead, scoring within the sixth minute from a lovely set piece play. Swiftly after, following some beautiful team build up play, Rona Stewart rounded the keeper to slot the ball home for a second.
The Wildcats kept applying the pressure winning a lot of ball high up the pitch and further goals followed in the second quarter from Alex Stuart and Catriona Booth. Gordonians steadied the ship in the third quarter with Siobhan Cowie between the posts making some outstanding saves for the home side.
A patient performance saw the visitors score once again following an attack down the right. Alex Stuart was waiting at the back post to tap this one home to finish the game 5-0.
A massive thank you to Rettie & Co Estate Agents, Regis Roofing and WJM Solicitors for their support in the upcoming season.
Over at Titwood it was a much tighter affair. The Men's 1st Team had more of the ball, more corners and better chances than Clydesdale but their serial inability to hit a barn door with a banjo and some ruthless finishing from the home side them 2-0 down three quarters of the way through the game.
Western showed character to get back into things through Rob Harwood and survived a good looking shout for a penalty before Andrew McConnell rattled home a corner with minutes left. Immediately afterwards they had the ball in the net again but the goal was disallowed.
All in all this was a point gained rather than one dropped.
Through in the capital the 2s went down 2-1 against champions Watsonians 2s. Amit was philosophical, however, about a good performance and a close game.
The 3s muddled their way to a 4-2 win away to Kelburne 3s. The 4s won 4-0 but could have had more, "if we had played well" according to Akash. The 5s won 4-3.
