Congratulations to our Men's 1st Team who sealed the Scottish Premiership title with a 7-2 win over Grange on Saturday. This is their first outdoor title since 2004 and the first time a team has won the indoor and outdoor championships in the same year since Menzieshill in 1986.
The game itself fitted the pattern of a lot of Western games this season. The boys started slow and went a goal down early on before taking a 2-1 lead. They weathered a Grange storm in the third quarter and were fortunate to be level at 2-2 going into the final quarter. However, they then turned on the style, going over the top of a Grange team perhaps running out of steam after last weekend's demanding EHL schedule.
Western have two domestic games left this season: next week they play Dunfermline Carnegie in their final league game and the following week is the Scottish Cup final against Hillhead as they chase the league and cup double.
The Women's 1s finally got their first league win of 2022, an emphatic 8-0 hammering of GHK. Their final league game is on Wednesday against Hillhead and they need to win to finish fourth.
The Men's 2s just fell short of the win they needed against Edinburgh University 2s, drawing 2-2. Western played very well against a strong uni side who they meet in the District Cup final in two weeks time.
The 4s are within touching distance of the West 3 title following their win on Saturday.
