The Men’s first team head out to Lousada, Portugal today to compete in the European Indoor C Division. The tournament runs from Friday through to Sunday.
The boys kick off their campaign in the opening match of the tournament against Bulgarian
side FHC Slavia 1921 on Friday morning at 0930. They will then play their remaining two group games before either playing in a promotion or relegation pool depending on their group stage finish.
Final standings will be decided on the conclusion of pool matches on Sunday. The top two teams will gain promotion into the second tier of Europe’s indoor league. Western will face stern opposition for these spots but this is the primary target, having just qualified for more European hockey at last weekend’s Gala day. Winning the tournament itself is eminently achievable for this group of players and this is very much the aim.
Western have a full compliment of players available and are on a high from last weekend’s excellent showing in the indoor final. We wish the boys the best of luck!
