1S MAKE CUP QUARTER FINALS AFTER 4-1 WIN IN DUNDEE

23 Nov 2009

The Men's 1s came through a tough game in Dundee as 4-1 winners and take their place in the Scottish Cup Quarter Finals. A Scott McCartney hat-trick (2 corners plus 1 from open play) and a Steven Percy single were enough to ensure the win, however they have Andrew McLaughlin to thank for a string of excellent saves as Wanderers pushed them hard in spells.

With numerous bodies missing throughout the club the 2s fielded a patchwork side and did very well to defeat a strong Clydesdale team 3-0. Clydesdale had a lot of pressure in the opening phase of the game but, as Fraser Crawford said, "They did nothing with it. All they had was a crash into the D and we dealt with it comfortably."

The 3s v 4s was typically tempestuous with the 4s eventually running out deserved 5-4 winners. Three times they established two goal leads only for the 3s to claw their way back into the game on each occasion. In the final few minutes their committed defending saw them through a predictable onslaught and they might even have had a sixth as the excellent Neil Galloway broke one-on-one with Craig Wallace in the 3s goal.

The 6s played some good hockey against Glasgow University but were overpowered by the students' superior strength and fitness. Ally Trainor scored from a penalty corner late on for their goal in the 2-1 defeat. Pleasingly our youngsters showed up well. Ben Orr in particular had a very solid game in midfield.

Both the Women's 2s and 3s had their game cancelled due to torrential rain flooding the pitch.
