YOUTH TO THE FORE IN PERTH THIS WEEKEND

24 Jan 2013

After the thrills and spills of last weekend, Western could make it into the upper echelons of Men’s National League Division 1 indoor at the end of this Saturday’s final two fixtures but could also still be relegated. In practice, the likelihood is that they will maintain sixth position given the huge advantage in goal difference they enjoy over Clydesdale in seventh and the very inexperienced squad they will be forced to take to Perth to play Dundee Wanderers and Kelburne.

Gary Maitles, Dave Mansouri, Steven Percy, Dougie Simpson and Joe Simpson are all injured. Add a goalkeeper to that list and you have a pretty convincing starting six. It is of course true that injuries for some mean opportunities for others so we hope that youth will man the breach. The likes of Rhury Smith, Joe McConnell and Ross Clunie all travel and extended exposure at this level will do them no harm at all.

At Auchenhowie, the Men’s 2s and 3s play a friendly (1130). Neil Galloway takes a healthy looking squad to Windyedge to play Glasgow Accies (1430) while Richard Biggans’ 6th Team are at Stepps (1400).
