2S PICK UP A POINT

10 Feb 2013

The Men's 2s demonstrated their progress this season with a respectable 1-1 draw at home to Edinburgh University 2s. They played a little better than last week's defeat to Grange but did not have the cutting edge required to secure all three points. Given they were tonked 8-1 away to the students in November, this is a good result.

The 3s celebrated their first league victory of the season with a 6-2 win over bottom-of-the-table CALA Edinburgh. 3-0 up at half time and looking good they lost their focus and allowed the visitors back into the game at 3-2 before closing things out impressively. Barry Kane (3), Kris Kane (pen) and Robbie Miller did the damage for Western, as did the CALA goalie: he clipped a harmless ball into the D with his foot as it went into the goal to the initial bemusement of umpires, defenders and himself before Robbie Robertson coolly sorted things out and sanctioned the goal.

The 4s were thrashed 6-0 at Bellahouston by Kelburne 3s.

The 5s enjoyed a stirring 4-3 win over a typically competitve Anchor 2s at Linwood. Western conspired to miss two of the three penalties they were awarded before Niall Sturrock capped a first rate personal performance by calmly slotting home the third. The visitors were worth their win but had to work hard for it against a home side who pushed them all the way.
