CUP GAMES AT AUCHNHOWIE THIS SATURDAY

14 Feb 2013

Both first teams are at home in the cup this weekend and both will expect to progress against lower-league opponents.

The men face FMGM Monarchs (1330) who are equal top of Division 3. After last night’s workout against Kelburne they will be confident of having too much for the Arbroath side. Gary Maitles, Joe Simpson and Dougie Simpson all miss out. However, the return of Calum Grant after a six month sabbatical is a welcome boost as is the good form of – among others – Joe McConnell.

The girls should also progress against Grange A (1200). They have a full strength side and will aim to take their excellent indoor form into this one.

The Men’s 2s and 3s both face challenging assignments away to teams who are pursuing the Central 1 title. Simon Dick takes his men to Bellahouston to play a Kelburne second team who will surely be out to avenge their 2-1 defeat at Auchenhowie last year (1200). The 3s go to Edinburgh with an inexperienced squad and are an outside bet to take anything from top-of-the-table Inverleith 2s (1230), especially in the light of their 8-2 defeat to the capital side at Auchenhowie in the Autumn.

T
he 4s have a strong looking squad and should take care of Clydesdale 3s at home (1030) while the 5s will aim to build on last week’s hard-fought victory at Anchor 2s with a good performance at GHK 2s (1330). The 6s are at home to Uddingston 4s (1630).

The girls’ 2s play Greenock at home (1500) while the 3s are away to Strathclyde University on Saturday and Dalziel on Sunday.
