1ST TEAMS ROMP IT IN THE CUP

18 Feb 2013

Our first teams cruised into the next round of their cups with predictably heavy victories over lower-league teams. The men racked up 19 goals with no reply against FMGM Monarchs – Scott McCartney scored 13 – while the girls shook off a lethargic first half performance to run out 8-1 winners over Grange A.

The Women’s 2s and 3s ensured a green day for the girls with two good wins. The 2s beat Greenock 2-1 at Auchenhowie with Ellie Hutchison and Simone McDowall doing the damage while the 3s triumphed 3-1 away to Strathclyde University.

The Men’s 2s and 3s were on the receiving end of things, though. The 2s were thumped 10-1 by a strong Kelburne 2s while the 3s took a 7-0 doing off league leaders Inverleith 2s. Weakened by a string of call-offs, the 3s were only a goal down at the halfway point but a dire nine minute spell directly after half-time saw them concede four goals after which there was no way back.

The 4s did the business. Captain Neil Galloway scored, as did Andrew Sewnauth and Colin Fraser as they beat Clydesdale 3s 3-0 at the club. The 5s just lost out by the odd goal in seven to GHK 2s in what was by all accounts a decent contest.
