GIRLS GO TOP

15 Oct 2018

An outstanding 3-1 home win over Dundee Wanderers sees our Women's 1s top of Division 1.

Wanderers began the game the stronger side and looked very dangerous for the bulk of the first half. They took the lead from a penalty corner and had other opportunities. Wildcats hung in, though, and the tide began to turn with first MacKenzie Bell and then Erin Stevens scoring to put the home side 2-1 up at the interval. The girls controlled the second half and Becky Ward made it 3-1, scrambling home an overtime corner.

The boys rolled over bottom side Gordonians with a ruthless 10-0 win. They were 4-0 up at the break through McConnell (3) and Moran. The massacre continued in the second half with McConnell taking his telly to five and Moran adding another with Galt, Calder and Cowan also rubbing the Aberdonians' noses in it.

The 2s had a good weekend, too, with two hard fought victories. They beat Clydesdale 2s 3-2 and Grange 2s 2-1. In both games Western made things far harder for themselves than necessary. However, they do say the best teams win when they aren't playing well and are now second top of Central 1 so perhaps things are coming together.

This Saturday coming is a big one with both first teams hosting Edinburgh University, the men at 1300 and the women at 1430. The 2s are at Glasgow Green to play Kelburne 2s (1200).
