Our Men's 1s came through a tricky double-header with their title hopes still alive but now out of their own hands after a draw and a win at the weekend.
On Saturday they were a little fortunate to draw with a well-organised and determined Clydesdale side who took the lead very early on. Fraser Calder equalised before half time but the second half saw more chances for the visitors than for the home side including a penalty saved by Gavin Sommerville near the end.
The dropped points on Saturday meant a win on Sunday against Menzieshill (who had beaten Gordonians by an outlandish 21-0 the previous day) was vital. Again, Western went behind and again they came back just before half time with Andrew McConnell scoring. Five minutes into the second half, Hamish Galt converted a peach of a penalty corner and Western then showed enormous guts and defensive bloody-mindedness to see out the game 2-1.
Western go into the indoor season in second place by a point to Menzieshill. Grange are two points ahead but have a game in hand away to Kelburne this Saturday.
Elsewhere, the Men's 3s beat East Kilbride 6-3 and the Women's 2s won 3-2 in Ardrossan
