As August draws to a close with the league campaign nearly upon us it's good to see that each of our men's sides will be exposed to some friendly fire on Saturday.
The 1s, looking fit and sharp in training after an intensive pre-season programme, host Uddingston (1200). Western don't quite have a full squad so one or two 2s players will get their chance to impress. Interesting here will be an early look at how Uddingston - top four finishers last term - are shaping up.
The 2s are also at Auchenhowie (1500). They play Hillhead 2s. A number of Western's youngsters look to have kicked on over the summer and, with the addition of some older heads returning or transferring, the 2s could well be a team worth watching this season. This early fixture will be an interesting barometer of their potential.
The 3s and 4s both play Helensburgh. The 3s are on at 1230 against their 1s while the 4s face their 2s at 1400. Both games are at Our Lady and St Patrick's High School, Dumbarton. The 3s look similar to last year and should give a good account of themselves. The 4s are very exciting, packed with talented youngsters plus a few older heads to steady the tiller.
Finally, the 5s are at home to Stirling at 1330 in what should be a good run out for both sides.
