With our first teams taking some body blows last weekend,
home fixtures against Watsonians this Saturday offer them the opportunity to
get onto the front foot and back in the league championship fight.
The Women’s 1s are on first (1300) and face a stiff test.
Watsonians are second top with four wins and one defeat from their five games.
Wildcats must pick up points following the five they dropped at the weekend.
“We played really well on Saturday and were gutted to lose
the goals – and the game - so late,” said Kaz. “At 3-2 up we were close to a
great win. On Sunday we absolutely battered GHK. We hit the frame of the goal
three times and they cleared shots off the line twice. We had all the possession
but just couldn’t score. This Saturday we have to put that right and get back
to winning ways.”
While Watsonians’ women are second top, conversely their men
are second bottom with just 3 points. Western are down to fifth after last
week’s 6-3 defeat to Edinburgh University which makes this game (1430) a must
win for the home side.
“We are in a position where we want to go on a run and
compete strongly with the teams above us,” said Vish. “We have Watsonians at
home then away games against Grange and Menzieshill and a home game against Uddingston
in between. It’s not easy but with Andrew McConnell back from Malaysia and
Hamish Galt close to fitness the squad is nearly at full strength.”
Also at the club are the Men’s 3s against Glasgow University
(1130) and the 4s who host Hillhead (1600). The Men’s 2s are away to
Menzieshill (1400) while the 5s are at Helensburgh (1215). The Women’s 2s are
at GHK 2s at 1330 while the 3s are at Uddingston 4s.
