PINK RIBBON DAY GOES WITH A BANG

28 Oct 2019

Saturday's Pink Ribbon Day was a huge success. The club was busy, over £3000, including Gift Aid, has been raised. and we had four home wins from four with some excellent away wins too.

The Men's 3s got the show on the road with a 6-1 defeat of Glasgow University 3s. In truth, poor finishing and great goalkeeping kept the score down and Western should have won by more.

Next up the Women's 1st Team welcomed Watsonians. This was an excellent contest with both sides playing good hockey. Wildcats were 2-0 up early on and added a third in the second half to round off a superb performance with a 3-0 win. They go into next week's game against Dundee Wanderers full of confidence.

The boys weren't necessarily at their best but they managed to grind out a 1-0 win thanks to Andrew McConnell's first half penalty corner strike. Western should have added to their tally but, in the end, were happy to pick up the three points ahead of a trip to league leaders Grange this Saturday.

Win of the day goes to the Men's 4s who stuffed Hillhead 12-1 in the final game of the day.

Elsewhere, the Women's 2s won 3-0 against GHK while the 3s picked up an excellent 5-0 win at Uddingston.

The Men's 5s lost 6-1 to Hillhead while the 2s travelled all the way to Perth only to discover that the pitch had been double-booked and their game against Menzieshill was off.
