It’s two home games for our first teams this Saturday as
each aims to keep in touch with their league leaders.
The boys welcome Uddingston (1430) who seem to be as
inconsistent as ever. The Lanarkshire side sit sixth with eight points having
beaten Menzieshill and Kelburne but lost to the likes of Watsonians and drawn
with Hillhead and Dundee Wanderers.
Western are favourites for this game but they’ve
contrived to drop points to Uddingston before and must be on
their game to prevail against a dangerous opponent.
Vishal was happy with last week’s battling point at Grange
saying, “I was really pleased for them because we hadn’t played particularly
well against Edinburgh University or Watsonians so it was important to improve
against Grange. The guys did that and also showed terrific character to come back twice
for the draw.”
“This Saturday Dave Bond is carrying an injury but Adam
MacKenzie is available so we’ve got plenty of options. The important thing is
to get the win and then we set ourselves up for our last game before the break
away to Menzieshill.”
Interestingly, league leaders Grange meet second place Menzieshill on
Saturday so there is potential for changes at the top of the division.
The girls host Hillhead (1300) who are eighth with seven
points. This is the type of game Wildcats expect to win these days. However,
their gruesome 0-0 draw at home to GHK a couple of weeks ago will be a warning
against complacency.
Two teams who are absolutely flying just now are the Women’s
2s and 3s. The 2s are fully six points clear in Championship 3 with five wins
and a draw. They go to Highland on Sunday aiming to keep their good run going.
The 3s, after some difficult seasons in West 4, now sit
proudly atop the division on goal difference with 13 points. They
visit second top Rottenrow on Saturday – also on 13 points - aiming to put
daylight between themselves and second place.
The Men’s 2s are away to Inverleith 2s (1330). The 3s host
Ayr (1600) while the 4s are away to Helensburgh 3s (1115) and the 5s go to
Hillhead 7s (1630).
