BIG WINS ON SUPER SATURDAY OF HOCKEY

11 Nov 2019

There were some impressive scores on Saturday with our teams racking up big wins.

First up were the Men's 4s who went to Helensburgh 3s and quite simply savaged the home side 14-0, scoring seven in each half and even missing a penalty. The list of scorers is too long to go into but their build-up play, passing and movement was a joy to behold. Poor old Helensburgh didn't stand a chance.

Next up were the Women's 1s who, having conceded the first goal, scored seven without reply as they smashed Hillhead. Skipper Catriona Booth, Alex Stuart and Megan Cox all scored but MVP - again - was hat-trick heroine Ava Smith. Wildcats now move up to fourth place.

The Men's 1s have had some tricky encounters against Uddingston in recent seasons but their 9-0 win at home to the Lanarkshire side was something of a procession. Rob Harwood and Andrew McConnell both scored twice, Adam MacKenzie slotted a penalty corner hat-trick and Frasers Moran and Calder scored once each. Western are now up to second in the table.

With the sky darkening and the cold beginning to bite the Men's 3s took to the field against Ayr. The visitors scored first and last but could do little about the goals that came in between as Western played their best hockey of the season in a handsome 9-2 win.

The Women's 3s beat promotion rivals Rottenrow 4-1. The Men's 5s had a good 1-1 draw away to Hillhead 7s and the Men's 2s' game was postponed due to the weather.

Yesterday the Women's 2s lost for the first time this season, 1-0 away to Highland.
