This Saturday the Women’s 1s face a stern test as they welcome Clydesdale Western to Auchenhowie (1500). Our girls played well in their opener against Hillhead, but a final score of 0-0 tells you that their main focus has to be sharpening up in the D.
Season 2021/22 looks like being a transitional one for Wildcats with several stalwarts having moved on. This leaves a very able and experienced core (Kaz Cuthbert, Becky Ward, Kate Holmes and Jayne McLaughlin all have senior caps plus the likes of Rona Stewart and Alex Stuart have an excellent top division pedigree) around which a wealth of potential is now making the step up. It won’t come overnight but the future of this team is very exciting.
The 2s got their season off to winning start last Saturday and this Sunday welcome Highland to Auchenhowie (1400). The 3s start their season off with a trip to Ardrossan. Best of luck to both Wildcats teams.
The Men’s 1s are at home to Clydesdale (1330). Western ran out comfortable 6-1 winners at Hillhead last Saturday without really firing properly and will want to up their game against a capable Clydesdale side.
Dale beat Wanderers 4-1 up in Dundee in their opening game and are a team who should feature at the upper end of the division this season. Western looked defensively solid last week and have the firepower to blow most teams away but they will need to control the game better to ensure three points in this one.
The 2s are away to Watsonians 2s who are traditionally a strong side at this level. Western look to have the makings of a very good second team this season, though, and will back themselves in what should be a competitive fixture.
The 3s have started like a train this season with two excellent victories – at home to Kelburne and away to Uddingston – and they go into their game with Hillhead at Old Anniesland (1240) brimming with confidence. Hillhead 3s are always a very useful side so this should be a good game.
Finally, the 4s are at home to Clydesdale Development (1630) and the 5s host Helensburgh 3s (1030).
