MIXED BAG FOR FIRST TEAMS

20 Sep 2021

It was win one lose one for our first teams in their encounters with Clydesdale on Saturday. The men came out 7-3 victors while the women lost 4-3.

The boys were level pegging at 2-2 with three-quarters of their game played, having twice been behind. Their fitness told in the final quarter, though, as they overpowered 'dale to run out comfortable winners and consolidate at the top of the table. Doubles for Fraser Calder and Rob Harwood plus singles for Callum Duke, Jonny Christie and Adam MacKenzie did the necessary for Western.

The women, too, were 2-2 going into the final quarter and with two minutes left the score was 3-3 and they looked good for a hard-fought point. Sadly, they couldn't hang on and Clydesdale stole a goal and took the points back to Titwood. Alex Stuart, Rona Stewart and Rachel Bain scored Wildcats' goals.

The Women's 1s did very well to beat Highland 1-0 thanks to a Megan Cox goal.

The Men's 2s continued their good start with a really good 3-1 away win against Watsonians 2s. Cammy Moran kept up his scoring run and Stuart Eadie bagged a couple to take the points here.

The Men's 3s stuck manfully to their task against Hillhead at Old Anniesland and Ben McLellan scored a lovely goal to take the lead early on but the home side just had too much for Western and deservedly won the game 4-1. A mention in dispatches for Ruaridh O'Toole who was exceptional in goal for visitors pulling off a string of remarkable saves.

The 4s won 4-2 against Clydesdale Development with their youngsters showing up well.

On Sunday, the Women's U18s qualified from their Scottish Cup pool with a win and two draws. Well done to them and good luck in the semi-final.
