This Saturday serves up a mouth-watering feast of hockey at Auchenhowie. First up the Men’s 2s play what could be a corker against Grange 2s (1200). This is followed up by each first team playing Edinburgh University, the men at 1330 and the women at 1500.
The Men’s 2s have started their season really well with three wins out of four. There is a lot to like about this Western side with the typical mix of youth and experience leaning far more to the former than the latter. Grange 2s are always a strong side and this is usually a good game. Get down and watch if you can.
With the Appetiser out of the way we then proceed to the meal proper with Edinburgh University provide strong opposition in both the women’s and men’s games.
The Men’s 1s have certainly enjoyed the better start of our two performance sides with three wins from three and a very healthy goal difference. The students, though, are about as bogey a team as it gets for the boys and this is precisely the kind of game Western have coughed up points in previously. The home side must be on their game to keep the 100% record – and their title momentum – going.
The Women’s 1s have started the season a little slower than they would have liked but an excellent performance and an agonising last minute defeat to Clydesdale Western followed by the opening up of an 8-1 can of whup-ass on Dundee Wanderers suggests they are beginning to come good. Uni lost by a single goal to Clydesdale last Saturday suggesting this could be a very close contest and not one to be missed.
On Sunday we have cup games. The Women’s 1s are away to GHK 2s while the Men’s 1s have a bye. The Men’s 2s are away to Shetland (LOL) and the Men’s 3s are away to Inverleith 3s.
