We had three games on Saturday and three good results.
It was a challenging day for the Women’s 2s with 12 unavailable and a squad of 11 - all of whom were outfield players. Playing aggressively the plan was to press as high as possible but despite lots of pressure they were 1-0 down at half time. Having equalised early in second half through Oral Parsons they continued to dominate play but the counter was always a threat. The game finished 1-1. Great effort from the team ably supported by stand in coach Kaz.
A dominant 3 - 1 victory for the young 3’s team away to an experienced and physical Ayr team. The girls showed great character to respond to the early Ayr opener. In quick response Melissa Thomson put the teams level with a one v one against a decent Ayr goalkeeper.
Growing in confidence and taking complete control of the game, Wildcats took a well-deserved lead into the break with a goal from Abbie Gilchrist. The third goal was definitely one from the training ground. A well worked goal with brilliant link up play between Kate Kellock and Ruby Innes followed up by Rachael Smith at the back post. Cruising at 3-1 and against the run of play Fallon Thomson was called into action to make a crucial double save.
Very much a decent team performance that was commented upon by the coaching staff at Ayr. On to next Sunday and a cup tie in Aberdeen.
The Men’s 2s had a good 4-1 win in the rain against Hillhead 2s.The game was locked at 1-1 for a long time and the final score perhaps flattered Western a little. Owen Jenkins-Garcia opened the scoring by rebounding a Sam Eadie penalty corner before Hillhead equalised. Two moments of class from Matt McGinley (pictured shooting courtesy of Andy Lovat photography)) took the 2s clear before Euan Cowan polished things off from another rebounded corner.
