WOMEN WELCOME GROVE THIS SATURDAY

20 Oct 2021

This Saturday we have four home games and three sides on the road.

Pick of the bunch is the Women’s 1s’ game against Grove Menzieshill which is a 1500 start at Auchenhowie. The Dundonians have been a power in the women’s game for years. However, they don’t look to be quite as strong lately and Wildcats must fancy their chances of getting a win and hopefully building up some momentum after a patchy set of results thus far.

The girls miss the influential Becky Ward who is on international duty as well as the experienced duo of Rachel Bain and Sue Campbell. This opens up an opportunity for promising youngster Lucy MacMillan who joins the squad.

Kaz said, “The start of the season has been frustrating as we’ve played well but dropped points when we might have taken them. However, this is a new, young squad and we are growing and developing with every game.” She continued, “Saturday is an important game for us and we are targeting maximum points.”

The 2s are also at home. They host St Andrews University at 1200. The 3s go to Irvine.

The Men’s 1s do not play as they are missing players to the national sides. Those who are available will train instead.

The 2s must also see their 1420 Glasgow Green fixture against Kelburne 2s as an opportunity for three points. Kelburne’s form has been grim with some heavy defeats and Western must capitalise on this if they want keep up with the pack at the top of the Regional league.

Also away from home are the 3s. They face a tough game at Titwood against Clydesdale 3s. Western’s season has been decent rather than spectacular so far and a win here would help them keep in touch with the top of the West 1 table.

The 4s and 5s are at home. The 5s at 1030 against Clydesdale 5s and the 4s at 1630 against Hillhead 6s.
