Game of the day this Saturday is obviously Ross County versus St Johnstone. Hockey-wise, though, we can see no further than our Women’s 1s’ home fixture against league leaders Clydesdale Western (1500).
The girls were very unlucky not to take a point from the Titwood side earlier in the season, losing out to a last-minute winner. This Saturday gives them the opportunity to right that wrong.
Kaz said, “We are absolutely buzzing to be back at The Fortress and can’t wait for the game. We have one or two people unavailable but the strength-in-depth of the squad is showing with the youngsters really stepping up and performing.”
The 2s are through in Edinburgh to play Grange 2s (1200) in the top half of the Championship post-split. There looks to be very little between the teams in terms of results so expect a close game. The 3s host GHK at 1630.
The Men’s 1s are in great shape, seven points clear at the top of the Premiership. They face a tough assignment away to a Watsonians (1400) team who are capable of a shock – witness their 3-3 draw with Grange last week – and will have to be at their best to win.
Vish said, “I’m very happy with the result against Uni, particularly given how disrupted our preparation was. The boys put in a good performance and deserved to win.”
“Watsons are a well-organised team and have a real threat from set-pieces. Last time we played them was tough and we are expecting nothing less this time around. If we keep the performance levels high, though, we expect to come away with three points.”
Western miss Andrew Webb but otherwise have a full squad.
Also away to Watsonians – in this case their 3s – are the 2s who play at 1430. Western will be determined to win this win and keep up the pressure on Edinburgh University 2s at the top of the Regional League.
The Men’s 3s remain nicely placed in West 1 and Saturday’s home game against Clydesdale 3s (1030) should be excellent. Dale nicked the last game between the two 2-1 and this one should be just as competitive.
