A comfortable 5-2 home win over Edinburgh University added to Grange's 3-3 draw with Watsonians sees the Men's 1s seven points clear at the top of the Men's Premiership.
Ruthless set piece finishing from Andrew McConnell - three penalty corners and a penalty stroke - aided and abetted by a spectacular finish off the baseline by young Adam MacKenzie saw Western home. They were the better side and this win is important not just for the points but also as it lays to rest a baffling run of bad form against the students. Well done all.
The girls have had their fair share of last minute heartache this season and they were at it again on Saturday. Missing several key players their young side were seconds away from an outstanding 0-0 draw at Watsonians before they conceded agonisiongly close to full time. Plenty of positives to take from this one, though.
The Women's 2s lost 3-1, their inexperienced side giving themselves too much to do after a disappointing first half. The Men's 2s' game against Inverleith 2s was postponed.
The Men's 3s whacked a boorish Glasgow University 3s 5-0 with a particularly impressive second half performance. The 5s lost 6-4 to Helensburgh while the 4s won 6-3 against Ayr 2s yesterday.
