Congratulations to our Men's 1s who lifted the Scottish Cup for the first time since 2011 and completed an unprecedented unbeaten domestic season. Their 6-0 victory over Hillhead at Peffermill meant they secured their third trophy of the season with the European Championships in Geneva still to come. What odds a quadruple?
The win itself was fairly routine. Western led 3-0 at half time through Fraser Calder, Fraser Moran and Johnny Christie. They had their by now characteristic third quarter dip and had to be on their toes defensively as Hillhead had their best spell of the game. As the game wore on, though, Western reassserted themselves and only heroics from the Hillhead keeper kept them out. Finally, Calum Duke scored before Adam MacKenzie and Andrew McConnell sealed the win.
The 2s, playing earlier in the day, lost 3-0 in the District Cup final to a very impressive Edinburgh University 2s.
