BIG DAY AT AUCHENHOWIE THIS SATURDAY

09 Nov 2022

It’s an important day at Auchenhowie on Saturday as we fundraise for Samaritans. Jaw Brew will be providing the beers while Gavin’s Mill are providing teas, coffees and light snacks. There is a full card of hockey so get down to the club to support Western Wildcats as well as a very worthwhile charity.

First up are the Men’s 3s at 1100. They have had an up and down season but West 1 is that kind of league and they are in third place with leaders Helensburgh the visitors. A win here would boost their credentials as title contenders.

At 1230 the Men’s 2s welcome Uddingston. The Lanarkshire side are second bottom while Western’s much needed 5-0 win over Inverleith last week moved them up the table. The home side will see this as one to win as they aim to string a set of results together.

Game of the day is the Men’s 1s fixture against Clydesdale (1400). These are always tight affairs and expect this one to be no different. Dale were only beaten 3-2 by Grange a couple of weeks back and will give Western stiff resistance.

Vish said, “It’s going to be a tough game. Clydesdale are always motivated when they play us and we will need to match that. They took points off us at home last season so we need to perform well to get the win.”

“The season has been as expected so far. We knew coping with the EHL would be a challenge but it was great for the boys to experience it. Everyone is in good spirits going into the weekend and we have been scoring plenty of goals but I still think there is room for improvement”.

Calum Duke is injured and Euan Cowan is unavailable but other than that Western have a full squad.

The Women’s 1s are on straight after then men against Uddingston (1530). They have a victory firmly in their sights.

Kaz said, “It’s been a good start to the season. However, losing last midweek at Glasgow Uni was a blip and frustrating given the success we were building on. We have sharpened up, though, and the girls are ready to see off the last few games before Christmas with maximum points.”

Wildcats are missing Rona Stewart but are in good health otherwise.

Finally, the Men’s 5s play Hillhead 7s at 1700.

Away from home the Women’s 2s are at Falkirk (1400). The 3s and 4s are away to Hillhead at 1300 and 1400. The Men’s 4s play Anchor at Linwood at 1200.
