MENZIESHILL PROVIDE A STIFF CHALLENGE TOMORROW

19 Oct 2012

Grove Menzieshill are the visitors tomorrow (1230) as our Men's 1st Team aim to build on last Saturday's hard-working 2-0 win at Edinburgh University.

Menzieshill are a well-organised side and have a knack for upsetting the Auchenhowie apple cart, most recently with a 3-3 draw in the President's Cup last month. That was an ill-tempered meeting and this week Vishal mentioned a need for "discipline and control" in his pre-match notes. That was in reference to the threat posed by the Dundonians in a hockey sense but it could easily be applied more broadly. Tellingly, he also pointed out the truncated nature of the league season and the potentially fatal consequences of dropped points. This will not be an easy fixture but Western trained well last night and go into the game with confidence.

Our Women's 1st Team are back in action after a few weeks off. They have an extremely difficult match away to title pretenders Western Ladies (1430). Points would be fantastic from this one but, realistically, are more likely to come from less formidable fixtures. The 2s and 3s have the weekend off.

The Men's 2s are away at CALA and will be hopeful of getting their first win of the season. With the school holiday exacting its usual toll on numbers, they take a thinnish group to the capital. The same is true of the 3s. They face Grange 2s at Auchenhowie (1100) with a less than extravagantly stocked squad.

The 4s are at home to West District League champions Hillhead 3s (1400), the 5s go to Dumfries and the 6s play Clydesdale 6s at Auchenhowie (1530).

There's a lot going on at the club tomorrow so make the effort to get down, support our teams and enjoy the day.
