GIRLS AIMING FOR FIRST LEAGUE WIN
06 Nov 2012
After two comprehensive defeats at the hands of MCC Western and Edinburgh University, the Women’s 1s picked up their first point of the season last week with a draw at home to Giffnock. They go to CALA this Saturday targeting a win against one of their rivals for a mid-table place.
Murray
said, “We feel we can win – we beat them at home last time we played them – but CALA are a funny team: on their day they are capable of pushing the best teams but are very inconsistent. We should take a full squad and travel with confidence.”
The 2s are at Auchenhowie against MCC Western 4s (1600).This the first of 5 games in 9 days which will test the depth of a squad thinned by multiple injuries to key players. The 3s play Hillhead 4s at Windyedge (1600) and hope to take something from the game .
With nine points from three potentially troublesome games the Men’s 1
st
Team welcome Inverleith to Auchenhowie (1300) this Saturday knowing a win sets them up very nicely indeed for the visit of champions Kelburne a week hence.
The improving Edinburgh side have already beaten Western this year, albeit in the low-priority President’s Cup, and our boys will have to work as hard as ever to secure three points. Vishal is well aware of this saying, “Last season we had two pretty close matches so I’m expecting a tough game. We have carried a goal threat recently but need to be better defensively.”
Long-term absentees Euan Miller and Steven Percy are the only players Vish doesn’t have available this weekend.
The 2s host Kelburne 2s (1430). Western have struggled in recent weeks and are very much the draw specialists in the division. A share of the points on Saturday would suit Simon just fine but, realistically, this will be a tall order against a very impressive Paisley outfit. On Sunday they take the road and miles, going to Dundee for a District Cup tie against Menzieshill 2s.
Also on cup duty against Menzieshill on Sunday are the 3s. They are at home (1430) to the Dundonian’s 3
rd
as they begin yet another defence of the Reserve Cup. Western should be fresh with a day off on Saturday.
The 4s have a double-header. At home to Helensburgh on Saturday, they face Inverleith 3s away on Sunday in the cup. The 5s don’t play on Saturday but have a Reserve Cup tie on Sunday against Kelburne 4s (1300).
The 6s, boasting a mighty nine points from three games, are at Helensburgh 3s. Long may their bandwagon roll.
