SIX POINTS PUTS MEN IN STRONG POSITION

05 Nov 2012

A six-point weekend leaves our Men’s 1st Team very well placed in Division 1. However, these were two wins where the boys had to work hard and ride their luck.

They were 2-1 down at half-time in Edinburgh against Grange on Saturday and it looked like their mediocre recent record in the capital would continue. A second-half smash-and-grab changed that, though, with Josephs Simpson and McConnell aiding and abetting Scott McCartney’s two goal haul as Western looted a 5-2 win.

More robbery followed yesterday. Having comprehensively outplayed Hillhead in the first half Western were 1-0 up at half-time from a Ross Clunie penalty corner and more goals looked a certainty. They did indeed follow but were evenly distributed between the teams and it took a last gasp penalty from McCartney to secure a shaky 3-2 victory.

The 2s and 3s were whipped, 8-1 and 5-1 respectively. Good news came further down the club, however. The 4s finally got points on the board with a 5-3 win at home to Clydeside. The 5s edged Rottenrow 2-1 and the 6s beat Uddingston 4s 5-4 in a decent game.

The Women’s 3s played well losing 2-0 away to Greenock. Captain Rhona Telfer was player of the match. Iona McIntyre-Beon produced another impressive display.
