LAST OUTDOOR GAMES FOR 1S

28 Nov 2012

With the indoor season starting next weekend, our top teams go into their last Saturday of outdoor hockey this calendar year.

The men are in Edinburgh for what should be a routine fixture against Watsonians (1300). We remember the last time we watched Watsons, though, and our boys made heavy weather of a 3-2 victory, coming from 2-0 down against a very plucky visiting outfit. Anything other than a win for Western would be a big shock but, as ever, Vishal will guard against complacency as he prepares his team.

Murray has a much harder task on his hands at home to Grove Menzieshill (1330). The Scottish champions are in ominous form and come to Auchenhowie as odds-on favourites. Wildcats game them a close run in the Peregrine's Cup earlier in the season, though, so an upset is not completely impossible.

The Women's 2s are at home to Dumfries (1500). They have suffered a few reverses recently and aim to get back to their early season form.

Finally, our club players will have the opportunity to enjoy some indoor hockey this weekend as the West District Indoor League kicks off. Richard Biggans has entered two teams in the competition and we would like to thank him for all his hard work. Western 1 play a President's Team (1130) while Western 2 face Giffnock (0930). Both games are at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley. If the indoor league is anything like the 1970s television namesake fronted by Sid Waddell and Freddie Truman then it should be enormous fun (if you don't know what we're talking about it's well worth a visit to youtube to check it out).
