WEATHER THE WINNER AS FIXTURES ARE FROZEN OUT

24 Nov 2012

Today's cold snap cancelled all but a handful of games. Only the 5s and 6s played 70 minutes, the 5s won 5-0 against Helensburgh while the 6s lost 1-0 to Stepps. The Men's 1s' game at Auchenhowie was abandoned before half-time as the temperature dropped and the surface became increasingly treacherous. Give that Gordonians were 1-0 up and looking dangerous this was perhaps no bad thing from a Western point of view.

One game that did go ahead was the Men's National League Division 2 fixture between Highland and Aberdeen Grammar umpired by our own Gregg Maxwell. Gregg departed Milngavie at 7.41am and, at the time of writing (7.21pm) still has a good hour-and-a-half until he gets home from Inverness. That's the kind of heroism that simply cannot remain unsung so we'd like to make everyone aware of Gregg sacrificing his entire Saturday to fulfil one of our most onerous umpiring commitments. We'll be buying the man a beer next time we see him, the rest of you should at least say a sincere thank you.
