EXCELLENT RESULTS IN A GREAT WEEKEND OF HOCKEY

17 Sep 2018

It was a terrific weekend for the club with some great hockey played and excellent results.

Leading the charge were the Men's 1s. They dominated their game against Kelburne on Saturday and should have won by more than 2-1 thanks to second half goals from Rob Harwood and Andrew McConnell. Indeed, their finishing - particularly from penalty corners - was the only unsatisfactory things about this performance which kicked off their season in style.

They followed up yesterday on it with an 8-0 crushing of Dunfermline Carnegie in the Scottish Cup. Only 1-0 up at half-time through an Andrew McConnell drag-flick, the second half was a procession with goals from Fraser Calder (3), Rob Harwood, Fraser Moran, Owen Jenkins-Garcia and Rhury Smith.

The girls had a good weekend, too. They beat GHK 6-2. Alex Stuart scored 3 and Kate Homes 2 with Erin Stevens getting the other. Yesterday they went to Aberdeen and beat Gordonians 2-0 in the Scottish Cup.

The Men's 2s stuffed Inverleith 9-4 on Saturday and then dug out an excellent 1-0 District Cup win at home to Hillhead yesterday.

The Men's 3s rallied from 2-0 and then 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Helensburgh on Saturday thanks to goals from Barry Kane, Matthew Martin and Ally Reid. Yesterday, they played very well but eventually lost 3-1 to a fresher Watsonians 4s in the Reserve Cup. Ally Reid scored again.

The Women's 2s won 3-1 in the cup and the 3s drew 2-2.

So, 9 games, 6 wins, 2 draws and just 1 defeat. Not bad going at all.
