This Saturday we have a full card of home fixtures with the pick of the litter the clash between our Men’s 1s and newly promoted Dunfermline Carnegie (1330). The sides are separated by goal difference at the top of the table (although the Fifers have played a couple of games more) and, with Grange just a point behind, this looks a must win if Western want to retain top spot.
“Everything is very positive in the camp after the weekend. We are just taking one game at a time, though, and there is a long way to go,” said Vish.
“Carnegie have done very well since being promoted and we know it’s going to be a tough game. Our target is to keep the momentum and performance levels going from last weekend and get the win.”
Andrew Webb misses out for Western but other than that they have a full squad.
Straight after the men we have the Women’s 1s against GHK (1500). The Old Anniesland side are going well with 15 points from eight games and Wildcats – currently seventh with ten points from six games - need to win fixtures like this to ensure top six.
Kaz showed characteristic enthusiasm, especially after the girls’ win last Saturday. “Last weekend was great,” she said. “We had five different goal scorers which shows the depth we have in the team and the fact that we bring a threat from all over the pitch.”
“We have been building momentum over the past few games and expect to keep that going against GHK. They are well-organised and tough to break down but we are confident, we relish a challenge and I am delighted with how we are developing as a team.”
Wildcats have a full squad.
These are two big games and both first teams are playing very well right now. Make it down to cheer them teams on this Saturday afternoon if you possibly can.
Both second teams play Grange, the women at home to Grange 2s (1200) while the men play their 3s through in the red trouser capital of Scotland. Both our sides have enjoyed good starts to their seasons and will hope to continue this against the Chaps and Chapettes.
The Women’s 3s aim to continue their good form away to Helensburgh (1445).
The Men’s 3s have had a bumpy old start to their season and sit sixth in West 1, five points behind the team they host on Saturday at 1030, Rottenrow. A win here would do Western the power of good.
The 4s have the 1630 graveyard slot at Auchenhowie against Hillhead 7s and the 5s travel to Dumfries.
On Sunday the Men’s 1s play a rearranged game away to Inverleith.
