Our first teams round off their league assignments for 2021 with a duo of double-headers. The Women are at home to Gordonians (1330) on Saturday then travel to Watsonians on Sunday (1600). The Men have two games at Auchenhowie. On Saturday they host Uddingston (1500) then on Sunday Menzieshill (1415).
The girls have been flying in recent weeks with six straight wins. They will be very confident of continuing that run against ninth-placed Gordonians. Sunday looks the trickier test away to a Watsonians side currently leading the Premiership. However, the way Wildcats are playing just now means that they back themselves against anyone.
“The girls are in good shape,” said Kaz. “With six wins on the trot we are growing every week. We feel we have goals from all over the pitch. Lucy MacMillan will be with us on Saturday and we have a full squad for Sunday. The plan is to keep playing our game our way and continue our winning ways.”
The 2s are also going well and face Kinross at 1630 at Auchenhowie on Saturday.
The Men’s 1s really should finish off an excellent first round of fixtures with two home wins. Uddingston are mid-table while Menzieshill are enduring a horrible season: rock bottom with just one point and a goal difference of -40.
Vish said, “I’m really happy with the season so far. The boys have progressed well. There is still a long way to go but we are in a good place at the moment. The aim is to finish the first half of the league season strongly and make sure we take a lead in to 2022.”
Andrew McConnell is still injured but other than that Western have a full squad for the weekend.
The 2s are away to Clydesdale 2s (1630). This is never an easy fixture and will probably be tight. Western have had a very sound opening ten games, though, and are nicely placed in second of the Regional League. They should go to Titwood with confidence.
The 3s have this Saturday off. The 4s are at home at 1200 versus Helensburgh 2s, recent conquerors of the 5s who are themselves at home, playing at 1030 against Ayr 2s.
