MEN A WIN AWAY FROM INDOOR CROWN

26 Jan 2022

Our Omicron-curtailed indoor season comes to a conclusion this weekend with the Men’s 1s in pole position to regain their crown. If Western win the first game of the day against Inverleith (0915) at the Peak in Stirling, they are champions. Lose and they must beat Menzieshill at 1350 and rely on the Edinburgh side being unable to make up the 20-odd goal difference in their remaining two games against Kelburne and Uddingston. Let’s hope they do it the easy way.

The Women’s 1s have the same two games remaining at Bells on Sunday facing Grove at 0915 and Inverleith at 1350. Both teams are just below Wildcats in the table and the girls will be hoping to sign off with a flourish.

The Men’s 2s play at DISC on Saturday at 1120 against Hillhead. They aim to double their points and wins tally with a victory.

The Men’s 3s host Uddingston 3s at high noon. Western beat Uddingston away from home in a 4-3 thriller back in the Autumn. Should they prevail again they would leapfrog the Lanarkshire side into second spot with a game in hand over table toppers Hillhead.

Top plays second in the other home fixture at 1500 with the Men’s 4s hosting Stepps who are nine points behind them with a game in hand. A Stepps win would make the title race look genuinely competitive, a Western win confirms it as a procession.

The 5s are away to Giffnock in what looks like being an even game. Western have ten points from ten games, Giffnock eight from eight.
