Four times they went behind and four times they came back to level. Saturday’s 4-4 draw with Grange wasn’t their best performance of the season but the resilience the Men’s 1s showed to grab an invaluable point away to The Chaps is the stuff that wins titles. Western remain five points clear of Grange and in pole position in the Premiership.
The Women’s 1s had a frustrating 0-0 draw away to GHK. “We battered GHK for most of the game but couldn’t get the ball over the line,” said Kaz afterwards.
The Women’s 2s lost 4-1 despite having taken an early lead. The Men’s 2s, playing with the bare 11 came away the right side of a 4-1 scoreline away to Greenock, though.
Also playing with a bare 11 were the Men’s 3s. They lost 3-2 to Rottenrow. The 4s won 3-0 and the 5s lost 3-1.
The Women’s 3s, sitting at the top of the league, faced second place Blue Sox at the National Hockey Centre. Wildcats dominated play but somehow found themselves going in 1 - 0 at the break.
In the second half the Wildcats pinned Blue Sox back and created chance after chance. It took a piece of individual skill by Jazlyn Sandhu who fired an unstoppable strike past the impressive Blue Sox goalkeeper.
The Wildcats took a well deserved lead through Millie Parsons after some excellent lead up play by Melissa Thomson. A second lapse in concentration by the youngsters let the hosts snatch a draw with the match finishing 2-2.
Next week the 3’s travel to GHK V in another top of the league challenge.
